About

About Me

Don’t let me bore you. I came here from St Andrews more than twenty years ago, with a dream of making fresh water using renewables. I’m a designer, and I’ve always been drawn to solving real problems.
I met my wife, Margi. She was incredibly encouraging and she proof read my work. She sadly died of cancer around two years ago. After Margi died, our dog Freya would howl if left alone, so I stopped selling books at weekend markets.
I wrote my first book of poems, Doodles Charlie, around 2020. Then came Climate Charlie in 2021, Climate 2 Charlie in 2023, and Kindness Charlie around 2022. The dates are not perfect, but the purpose is.
I write for kids because they can do no wrong. I’m lucky to have seven grandchildren. I also care deeply about water and the climate. It still shocks me how many children are lost to unsafe water, and it keeps pushing me to keep creating and keep building.
Now each children’s book is aimed at ages five to thirteen and features an Australian animal as the hero, helping people deal with the effects of climate change.
Our heroes are Will wombat, Danny dingo, Eddie echidna, Wendy wombat, and Rory roo.

“I have manuscripts written for Wendy wombat, Rory roo, Eddie echidna, and Danny dingo, waiting for the same treatment as Will wombat when I can save up. I’m a pensioner, so it may take time, but the ideas keep coming.”

Let’s Work Together

Stock, Collaborate, or Invite Charlie to Speak

Charlie’s stories are more than books — they are tools for inspiring young minds to care about kindness, climate, and community. If you’re a school, bookstore, library, educator, community group, or event organiser, there are many meaningful ways to work together and bring these stories to children and families.

Charlie welcomes opportunities to connect, share, and create impact through storytelling, conversation, and collaboration.

Ways We Can Collaborate
